Troubleshooting Common Issues

Try these fixes before contacting us:

Calculator shows "NaN" or no result

Make sure you've entered a valid number in the weight field. Remove any non-numeric characters (letters, symbols). Try refreshing the page and re-entering your values.

Results seem too high or too low

Double-check your weight units (lbs vs kg). Verify you've selected the correct activity level -- most people overestimate theirs. Make sure you're using the right calculator tab for your goal.

Page not loading or layout broken

Try a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R). Clear your browser cache. The calculator requires JavaScript -- make sure it's enabled in your browser settings.

Can't switch calculator tabs

This is usually a JavaScript issue. Try disabling browser extensions that might block scripts (ad blockers sometimes interfere). Try a different browser.

Print not working properly

First calculate your results, then use the print button on the results card. If that doesn't work, use your browser's built-in print function (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P).

Mobile display issues

Try rotating your device to landscape mode for tables. If the calculator is cut off, try zooming out. Clear your browser cache if styles look broken.

Before You Contact Us

You might find the answer to your question here:

Our calculator uses evidence-based protein recommendations that reflect the current scientific consensus. The ranges we provide (e.g., 0.7-1.0g per pound for muscle building) come from established sports nutrition research.

That said, these are estimates based on general population data. Individual needs can vary based on factors like genetics, specific health conditions, and training specifics. The calculator is designed to give you a solid starting point that works for most people. For personalized recommendations, consult a registered dietitian.

You're welcome to link to our calculator from your website, blog, or social media. We appreciate attribution when you share our tool with your audience.

However, please don't copy our calculator code, embed it in iframes, or reproduce our content without permission. If you're interested in a partnership or have a specific use case in mind, reach out to us via email and we'll discuss options.

Thank you for helping us improve! To help us fix the issue quickly, please include:

  • What you were trying to do (e.g., "Calculate protein for muscle building")
  • What happened (e.g., "The result showed NaN instead of a number")
  • What you expected to happen
  • The inputs you used (weight, activity level, etc.)
  • Your browser and device (e.g., "Chrome on iPhone" or "Firefox on Windows")

Screenshots are also helpful if the bug is visual.

Absolutely! We welcome feature suggestions and actively consider user feedback when planning improvements. Some of our best features came from user requests.

When submitting a feature request, it helps to explain:

  • What feature you'd like to see
  • Why it would be useful (what problem it solves)
  • How you imagine it working

We can't implement every suggestion, but we genuinely appreciate hearing what would make the calculator more useful for you.

Different calculators and sources may give different recommendations because there's no single "correct" protein intake. Our recommendations fall within the range supported by research, but they may differ from other tools that use different formulas or assumptions.

If your result seems very different from what you expected, double-check:

  • Are you using the right calculator tab for your goal?
  • Is your weight entered correctly (and in the right units)?
  • Is your activity level selection accurate?

If something still seems off, let us know what result you got and what you expected. We're happy to explain how the calculation works.

No. All calculations are performed locally in your browser. We never collect, store, or sell your personal health data. Read our privacy policy for full details.

We review our formulas against current research regularly. When significant new meta-analyses or position stands are published, we evaluate whether our ranges need adjustment. The underlying protein science has been relatively stable, but we stay current with the literature.

Yes! We're always considering new calculator types. Send us an email describing what calculator you'd like to see and how you'd use it. The most requested additions are prioritized in our development.

Different calculators use different formulas, research sources, and assumptions. Some may use older RDA values (0.36g/lb), while others may use more aggressive ranges from bodybuilding research. Our ranges represent the middle ground supported by the broadest body of evidence. All results should be considered estimates.

Our calculator is designed for adults (18+). Teenagers have different nutritional needs due to growth and development. While the general ranges may provide a rough guideline, teens should consult a healthcare provider or registered dietitian for personalized protein recommendations.

Feedback Welcome

We're always looking to improve Protein Intake Calculator. Whether it's a small usability issue, a confusing label, or an idea for a completely new feature, we want to hear about it.

Your feedback directly shapes how this tool evolves. Many improvements we've made came from users taking a few minutes to share their thoughts. Thank you for helping us build a better calculator.
